Hypothermia’s what happens when your body gets colder than a well digger’s boot — drops below 95°F (35°C) — and it can kill quicker than a rattler if you don’t act fast. You lose heat faster than you make it, and next thing you know, your mind’s foggy and your fingers don’t work right.

🧊 The Three Stages of Freezin’ Trouble

  • Mild Hypothermia (95–90°F / 35–32°C): Shiverin’, slurred talk, clumsy as a calf in mud.
  • Moderate Hypothermia (90–82°F / 32–28°C): Shiverin’ slows down, skin turns blue, slow breathin’.
  • Severe Hypothermia (Below 82°F / 28°C): Might pass out, slow heart, stiff as a post. Call for help fast.

🔥 What To Do When Someone’s Freezin’ Up

  1. Call for Help: Get emergency help right off. Don’t try to tough it out.
  2. Get ‘Em Outta the Cold: Move ‘em somewhere dry and out of the wind.
  3. Strip Off Wet Clothes: Wet gear steals heat fast.
  4. Warm ‘Em Up Slow: Focus on the chest, neck, and groin. No direct heat or hot baths.
  5. Give Warm Drinks (If Awake): Sweet, non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated.
  6. If They Ain’t Breathing: Start CPR till help shows up.
